5 Truths To Designing A Business You Love

We all love a good reality vs highlights reel story. You know, getting to see behind the scenes of what really happens to create that shiny end-result or experience, and what better way to tap into designing a business you love, than by sharing a few truths ‘behind the biz building’ and letting you in on a few insider secrets.

Buckle up baby, because we are getting REAL!

1. YOU DO NOT BUILD A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS SITTING ON A BEACH AND WORKING ONE HOUR A WEEK

It may be your dream to one day have that kind of freedom and luxurious lifestyle. I can guarantee that most successful start-ups and women in business did not get there easily, though. The truth is, building a business, even (read especially) one you love, takes hard work, determination, tenacity and drive. Of course, you can do it in a way that feels good and makes it worth it, but it still takes work.

2. IT TAKES TIME

Yes, that’s right—it takes time! Despite all the ‘earn six-figures in six-days’ marketing campaigns out there, the truth is, building a sustainable and successful business is a long-term game. Especially when you want to build an aligned and serving business, not just look to become an overnight success. So, sweetheart, you can take some pressure off that belief, ‘it needs to all happen NOW’. Take a deep breath and start mapping out a 5+ year business plan for everything you dream of.

3. YOU WILL QUESTION EVERYTHING YOU KNOW

It doesn’t matter how much experience or knowledge you already have, while building your own business, you will find yourself wondering, do I know anything at all? Or, is this even worth it? It is by the way. Feeling uncertain in the steps you are taking and decisions you are making is natural. This is an incredible opportunity for you to test your self-belief, stand in your power and align yourself and business with your core values, where your beliefs will be strengthened in the process.

4. BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR IS A MASTERCLASS IN PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

The entrepreneurial journey will stretch and challenge you to new heights of growth and self-awareness that you never believed were possible. Limiting beliefs, negative self-talk and your fears will become louder, meaner and scarier. There is often a misconception that if you are helping others, then you, must have it all ‘sorted’, but the truth is, often when we are stepping up ourselves—we are shining a light on every part of us—including our shadow side. You do not have to be perfect or have it all figured out before you can design a business you love. You only have to be open to growth and ready for a wild ride.

5. YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO IT ALONE

The quickest way to burnout, feelings of failure and not enoughness, is by falling trap to the idea that being a Solopreneur means doing everything in your business yourself. The reality of it is, while you will wear MANY different hats and find yourself doing things you never knew you could (or probably never thought you wanted to), you can ask for help, build a support team and when you’re ready, an actual team within your biz. Your tribe and community will be a vital part of your beautiful business and will add some extra love to it too—start reaching out, asking questions and building your very own team of women, who get you—who believe in you and your business.

These truths have not been to deter you or put you off in anyway, darling. Being an entrepreneur and starting my own business has been the best thing I’ve ever done. They are simply to better prepare you for the reality of building a business, and setting you up for long-term success. If you start out or continue building your business with these five truths then you are already ten steps ahead of where I was when I started out.

So, from one Girl Boss, to another, know your realities so you may revel in the highlights.
